Ichthux

Earlier today, a request to remove Ichthux from the Ubuntu Launchpad was filed.

Ichthux was the first Christian orientated Linux distro to be publicly released. 

In 2000, a set of utilities to be installed on Windows 2000, to create a desktop suitable for Christians, was released.  I do not remember the name of the publisher.  Their offerings included:

• Wallpaper;
• Clipart;
• Fonts;
• Templates;
• Desktop theme;

I don't remember what else it contained.

By way of comparison, when Ichthux  was originally released in 2003, it contained:

• Desktop Themes;
• Bookmarks for Christian websites;
• Fonts;
• Templates;
• Biblical Software. (Bibletime);

The big difference between the product for Win2K and Ichthux was the Bible software.

In 2006.Ichthux switched from being an independent distro, to a metapackage for Kubuntu.  

FLOSS OS and applications for Christian Organizations

In looking into setting up a foundation to take over e-Sword-users.org, one thing that repeatedly struck me, was that no Linux distro targeted the non-profit sector.

At least three quarters of the charitable organizations in England, do not meet the financial criteria that requires that they be registered with The Charitable Commission of England and Wales.  Not only is their gross annual revenue under five thousand pounds, but the trustees do not anticipate it exceeding that amount.


A 64 bit Linux or BSD distro that includes the following:

Things I immediately noticed:
* Linux users are a far smaller percentage of respondents at e-Sword-users.org, than at eSword@yahoogroups;
* Mac OSX users are a bigger percentage of respondents at e-Sword-users.org, than at eSword@yahoogroups;
* There are more 32 bit Windows XP users than any other OS;

* I have to wonder how many people specifically selected a mobile device, based on its ability to run Windows Mobile, so that they can use Pocket e-Sword;
